Marcel Jackson and Kevin Roberts each recorded a double-double to lead Long Beach State to a 71-68 victory over Loyola Marymount Tuesday.

Jackson scored a career-high 17 points, all in the second half, and pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds. Roberts added 17 points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds.

The Lions' Sherman Gay led all scorers with 19 points and Jason Dickens added 10.


The victory by the 49ers (2-5) snapped a three-game losing streak. LMU, after winning its first five games, has dropped four of its last five.

Long Beach State has beaten the Lions 11 of 12 times at Long Beach and have defeated LMU in 15 of 19 games.

Roberts and Jackson propelled the 49ers to a 56-44 lead with 9:37 remaining in the game. The Lions battled back and closed the gap to 69-68 on Charles Brown's layup with 13.6 seconds left.

Kevin Houston and Louis Darby made one free throw each to give Long Beach State a 71-68 lead with 3.3 seconds remaining. John Haywood's half-court shot rimmed out at the buzzer and the 49ers held on to win.

Houston scored 14 points for Long Beach State, all but one in the first half.

The 49ers out-rebounded the Lions (6-4) 47-35.
