Travis Bailey, Derrick Murphy and Corey Lamkin combined for more points than the entire Prairie View team as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi defeated the Panthers 80-51 Tuesday night.
Bailey had 18 points and Murphy and Lamkin added 17 apiece. Lamkin also had 13 rebounds and Bailey had six assists.
The Islanders scored 32 fast break points while Prairie View (0-7) did not score a single point on a fast break.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (5-4) led 13-6 in the middle of the first half before scoring nine unanswered points to lengthen its lead to 37-21 at halftime. The Islanders shot 61 percent from the field while Prairie View shot 32 percent, including 24 percent in the first half.
Kevin Cooper scored
14 points and had three assists for Prairie View.
DeMario Eddins and Ronell Taylor combined for 27 points, 26 coming in the second half, as UAB defeated Louisiana Tech 79-67 Tuesday night.
The game was tied 45-45 early in the second half before UAB went on a 17-0 run to take control. Eddins and Taylor scored 7 points each to spark the decisive run.
UAB (6-2) got 12
points from Gabe Kennedy while Donell Taylor had 9 points and five steals. The
Blazers used pressure defense to force 23 turnovers, 13 coming in the second
half.
Paul Millsaps led Louisiana Tech (4-4) with 17 points and 10 rebounds. JueMichael
Young added 12 points and Corey Dean had 10.
Louisiana Tech was a decided underdog coming into the game, but the Bulldogs outrebounded UAB 29-28 on their way to a 35-34 halftime lead.
UAB hurt itself by making only 6 of 16 free throws in the first half.
Louisiana Tech grabbed four 3-point leads early in the second half. Wayne Powell scored three-straight baskets inside to help Louisiana Tech offset UAB's defensive pressure. Ronell Taylor promptly scored a layup off a steal to start the 17-0 run.
The Blazers went on to lead by as many as 19 points before Tech cut the margin late.
