Dawan Robinson scored 31 points, including five in the final 36.7 seconds of regulation, to lead Rhode Island to a 96-90 overtime win over Charlotte.
Charlotte (6-3) led 80-75 with less than a minute remaining in regulation. But Robinson hit a pair of free throws, then a 3-pointer with a man in his face to tie the score at 80-80 with 26.5 seconds to play.
Charlotte led 87-86 in overtime after a Curtis Withers basket with 3:05 to play. But Rhode Island took the lead back, 89-87, on a 3-pointer by Robinson with 2:28 remaining.
Rhode Island (8-2) secured the victory by hitting seven of eight foul shots down the stretch. Chris Holm made three of four and Brian Woodward made all four of his attempts.
Woodward finished with 24 points for Rhode Island. Dustin Hellenga added 17 points and six rebounds.
Withers led Charlotte with 21 points and Demon Brown added 21.
The two teams were tied at 29-all at halftime. Brown led Charlotte with 14 points in the first half, while Robinson scored 14 points in the first half for URI.
Bryant Matthews scored 22 of his game-high 32 points in the first half and grabbed 11 rebounds as Virginia Tech used superior athleticism to defeat William & Mary 80-54 Tuesday night.
The Hokies (7-3) used turnovers, layups and slam dunks, including a stretch of three in a row at one point, to build leads of 20 points or more late in the first half to help snap a two-game losing streak to William & Mary.
Virginia Tech ended
the half on a Fabian Davis steal and dunk to extend the lead to 46-21. The Hokies
scored 12 points on fast breaks while the Tribe was shut out in the same category.
The Tribe (3-5) also had 16 turnovers in the first half, with Jamon Gordon causing
most of the havoc by the Hokies by tying an all-time school steals record in
the game with 8. Virginia Tech also matched a team record with 19.
Chris Tucker came off the bench for the Hokies and scored six quick points to push the Virginia Tech lead to 73-37 with 5:36 left.
William & Mary inched no closer than 27 points and finished the night shooting 31 percent from the field while Virginia Tech made 42 percent.
Coleman Collins had 10 points for the Hokies and Gordon added seven points and nine rebounds.
Adam Hess scored 13 and Nick D'Antoni had 11 for the Tribe.
