Harvey Thomas scored 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds Monday to lead Baylor to a 69-59 win over Northern Illinois at the round-robin Surf N' Slam-Hawaii Tournament.
Terrance Thomas added 17 points for Baylor (5-6).
Marcus Smallwood led the Huskies (4-6) with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Perry Smith and Todd Peterson each added 11 points.
Baylor was dominant in the paint, outscoring Northern Illinois 20-6.
Both teams were
tied at 30 at the half, but Baylor went on a run and led by as much as 13 points.
There were four ties and five lead changes in the game.
Joe Dabbert scored 19 points as Creighton preserved its perfect record with a 66-61 win over Wyoming on Monday.
The Cowboys (6-4) played catch-up from the opening minutes. After trailing 49-28 in the second half, they advanced within 3 points with about a minute left.
But the effort
came too late to overcome the Bluejays (8-0).
After Dabbert, Michael Lindeman had 14 points and Johnny Mathies 12 for the
Bluejays. The Cowboys were led by Alex Dunn's 16 points, followed by 10 points
from David Adams.
Wyoming drew within 62-56 when Mikel Watson scored with 1:56 left. Mory Correa then made a free throw and Adams scrambled in a basket to put the Pokes within a 3-pointer.
Mathies responded with two free throws for Creighton, then Dunn pulled the Cowboys to 64-61 with 34 seconds left.
Tyler McKinney sank two free throws for the Bluejays and Wyoming failed to convert on its last possession.
Wyoming outrebounded the Bluejays 40-29 but lagged in shooting, making just 36.8 percent to Creighton's 47.3 percent. The Bluejays also led the 3-point game, 35.7 percent to 14.3 percent.
Creighton outscored Wyoming 17-6 in first 10 minutes, getting up 19-8. The Cowboys regained ground to 30-22 and the half ended with a 33-23 Bluejays lead.
