Clement Carter set career highs with 30 points and 10 rebounds to lead Southern Mississippi to a 91-59 win over William Carey on Monday night.
Carter finished 9-for-13 on 3-pointers with seven in the second half. Charles Gaines also had a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
The Golden Eagles (6-3) led their NAIA opponent 32-22 at half before blowing the game open early in the second half.
Southern Miss (6-3) extended its lead to 21 points in the first two minutes.
The Golden Eagles outscored William Carey 38-7 through the 12:24 mark of the second half.
Carter came up big in the run, connecting on six straight 3s.
Southern Miss led
by as many as 39 twice, the last coming on a 79-40 advantage with 8:58 remaining.
Carter's 3-point shooting performance was the second-best in school history.

in 1993.
Jaeson Maravich, the son of Hall of Famer Pete Maravich, led William Carey (3-9) with 17 points. Braxton Robins added 16.
The Golden Eagles got 14 points from Jasper Johnson and 10 from Jarekus Singleton.
Johnson had 10 points in the first half.
