The Washington
Wizards will try to salvage the finale of their five-game West Coast swing as
they visit the Phoenix Suns.
Washington has dropped three of the first four games on the swing, including
Sunday's 100-92 loss to Sacramento. The Wizards were trying to sweep the season-series
from the Western Conference leaders, but shot only 37 percent from the field.
Gilbert Arenas scored 27 points, on 7-of-22 shooting for Washington, which has lost nine of 11. Arenas made 12 of 14 free throws.
``We went inside a couple of times, but we just didn't get anything,'' Arenas said. ``That was it. The inside wasn't going, the outside wasn't going, so I just tried to get to the free throw line.''
Larry Hughes added 18 points for the Wizards, who outrebounded the Kings 57-43 but connected on two of its 15 3-point attempts.
Phoenix returns home after wrapping up its own five-game road trip with a 105-76
loss to San Antonio. The Suns went 3-2 on the trip, but were awful against the
Spurs.
Amare Stoudemire led Phoenix with 20 points, but shot just 8-of-19 from the field, including 1-of-6 to start the game. Joe Johnson added 15 for the Suns.
Shawn Marion, who was averaging 19 points and nine rebounds, was held to just six points and four rebounds in 33 minutes and made no excuses for the Suns' poor play.
``You can call it what you want, they just beat us,'' Marion said. ``They jumped on us from the outset and that was it. ... We were never in the game.''
