Ryan Gomes scored 20 points and Dwight Brewington added 17 more to boost Providence College past Siena College 73-66 on Sunday.
Tuuka Kotti also had 11 points for the Friars (7-1), who have won their last four games. Austin Andrews led all scorers with a career-high 24 points for Siena (3-7), which lost its seventh straight game.
Gomes, who also had a game-high 15 rebounds, and Brewington combined to score 17 of the Friars' last 21 points to keep the Saints from recording an upset.
The Saints went without two key players, leading scorer Michael Haddix, who's averaged 15.1 points per game, and Antoine Jordan, who's averaged 10.1 points per game.
Gomes put the Friars up 62-52 with 5:44 left. But the Saints rallied, and a jumpshot from Andrews with 2:01 left tied the score at 65-65.
Kotti's foul shot, followed by two free throws by Gomes and a three-pointer by Brewington with 45 seconds left, helped Providence to take the lead again and seal the victory.
Siena led only once in the game when Brent Sniezyk scored the game's first basket. Providence went ahead by as many as 12 points before Andrews' scoring helped close the gap to 33-28 at the half.
Siena stayed within six points for most of the second half, at one point reaching a 39-39 tie on yet another basket by Andrews.
