Landy Thompson scored at the final buzzer Saturday to give Mount St. Mary's a 54-53 win over Navy.

Thompson's score came off a one-handed shot that first bounced off the backboard and the front and back of the rim before falling through the hoop. It came on the fourth inbounds possession by the Mountaineers (2-8) in the game's final seven seconds.

Navy (2-8) knocked away the first three inbound passes, but on the fourth try with 3.8 seconds to play, the Mountaineers got the ball to Thompson, who drove to the left side of the lane and got off the shot under pressure.

Thompson, who finished with a team-high 15 points, scored his team's final nine points in a win that snapped a 10-game road losing streak for the Mountaineers dating back to January.

Navy was led by Carlton Baldwin, who finished with 23 points. Baldwin had put the Mids ahead 51-50 on two free throws with 1:05 to play. Those free throws broke a four-minute scoring drought for the Mids, who led by 49-45 with 5:17 to play.

Thompson put Mount St. Mary's up again with a driving basket with 45.4 seconds to play but Jeff Charles countered with a basket with 18.3 seconds to put Navy ahead 53-52.

The teams shot terribly from both the floor and the free throw line. Navy was 20 of 52 from the floor and Mount St. Mary's finished 21 for 52 after Thompson's game-winner.

The Mids made just eight of 20 free throws. Mount St. Mary's was even worse, making just 9 of 24 free throws and missing 11 in a row in the second half before Thompson broke the ice.

Freshman Mychal Kearse had career-highs with 14 points and 12 rebounds for Mount St. Mary's. Navy staged an amazing comeback in the first half to lead 31-28 at halftime.

The Mids trailed 16-3 after the first four minutes of the game, but rallied for 12 straight points to close to 16-15. Mount St. Mary's pulled ahead 25-19 before going the final 8:15 of the half without scoring a basket.

Mount's only three points came on free throws as Navy outscored the Mountaineers, 12-3.

Navy took its first lead of the game, 27-26, on a 3-pointer by David Hooper with 1:51 left -- ending a stretch of 4:03 where neither team scored.
